Quality Assurance/Quality Control

Appropriate quality assurance/quality control strategies are an intrinsic part of the Triad approach.

Appropriate quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) strategies are an intrinsic part of the Triad approach. The concepts of QA/QC can be applied at several distinct levels, including overall project quality assurance and laboratory QA/QC. A Triad approach emphasizes collaborative data sets, with data coming from two or more analytical sources. For some of these sources (e.g., fixed laboratories), quality assurance and quality control programs may already be in place. These QA/QC requirements may be tailored for site-specific project requirements, and may be further modified as data are collected and analyzed. Many real-time measurement technologies have established QA/QC protocols as well, and these too may be customized for project-specific needs. For some real-time measurement sources, however, appropriate quality assurance and control strategies will need to be specified and justified. A Triad approach offers the flexibility to design effective, focused QA/QC programs that can be adapted while work is underway. This capacity can significantly improve the overall quality of resulting data sets, minimize the loss of data because of QA/QC problems, and reduce project costs. Triad-specific QA/QC details important from a project manager's perspective are described in the section entitled QA/QC Dimensions.
